These are the top destinations that I would recommend if you'll visit Puerto Princesa. The reasons I choose these are the one's popular and worthy of your time, money and in your schedule. I have visited this place last September 2010 and it still a great place to spend your vacation. Make sure that these activities are in your tour package and discover what the city has to offer!

I. Puerto Princesa City Tour

Historically, the place was named after Princess Eulalia of Spain, born in 1864 to Queen Isabel II and her consort, Dr. Francisco de Asis. When the princess suffered an untimely death, the Queen changed the name to Puerto de la Princesa. Eventually, the name was reduced to Puerto Princesa as it is known today. Spanish Colonizers founded the settlement on March 4, 1872 in the course of their exploration of the province.

How to Get There:

• By Air From/To Manila
Air travel from Manila to Puerto Princesa takes less than an hour and is available daily via Air Philippines, Cebu Pacific, and Philippine Airlines . 

• From/To Busuanga/El Nido
South East Asian Airlines flies to Puerto Princesa from Manila two to three times a week, oftentimes via Busuanga, Cuyo, and El Nido 

• From/To Cebu 
Cebu Pacific operates flights from Cebu to Puerto Princesa, four times a week.
Flight to Puerto Princesa City must be in morning and departure from Puerto Princesa must be in late afternoon to cover all the destinations included in the package.

 1.) Underground Subterranean River
An 8.2 kilometer Underground River that winds through a spectacular cave before emptying into the South China Sea.  It features a limestone karst mountain landscape with an 8.2 km. navigable underground river. A distinguishing feature of the river is that it winds through a cave before flowing directly into the South China Sea. It includes major formations of stalactites and stalagmites, and several large chambers. The lower portion of the river is subject to tidal influences. The underground river is reputed to be the world’s longest.  At the mouth of the cave, a clear lagoon is framed by ancient trees growing right to the water’s edge. Monkeys, large monitor lizards, and squirrels find their niche on the beach near the cave.

2.) Honda Bay Islands
Honda Bay, one of the Philippine's premiere tourist destinations, Palawan. It is host to several of the most exclusive resorts in the country. With its white sand beaches, magnificent landscape, fishing villages and rainforests, it is a favorable destination of adventurers and nature lovers. Honda Bay is just a few minutes north of city proper, hop onto a boat and goes island hopping at the emerald waters of Honda Bay.

There are several islands, each offering a different beauty and excitements.
  • Snake Island, a long sandbar that slithers on the surface of the sea, much like the critter that bears its name. It is best for snorkeling, swimming or simply basking in the sand
  • Starfish Island, fun finding of varied sizes and colors of starfishes
  • Lu-li Islet, a short term for "lulubog-lilitaw", a tiny islet that is visible at ebb tide and disappears under water during high tide
  • Pandan Island, it has a small drop offs and good reefs, great site for snorkeling and diving. SeƱorita Island, offer a glimpse of fish cage and seaweed culture
  •  Arreceffi Island, the island resort of Dos Palmas with a variety of activities to enjoy such as; ocean and mangrove kayaking, fishing, boat rides, snorkeling, and scuba diving
  • Bat Island, it is only 20 minutes away from St. Lourdes wharf, is literally teeming with bats which make their way out at sundown to look for food in the mainland.
  • Cowrie Island, pictureque, ideal for picnic trips or simply basking under the sun and lazing around the sand.

There is no entrance fee to see Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm. There are different souvenir items available and as well as snacks & drinks from the souvenir shop. Most of the handcrafted items are made by the prisoners.

4.) Kalui Restaurant
Kalui is the most famous restaurant in Puerto Princesa. It is a must visit place among tourists. Your tour in Palawan wouldn't be complete if you haven't visited this place. They offer a wide variety of menu which depends on the fresh catch of the day. Everything on the menu is seafood and vegetables which includes sashimi, tempura, shellfish soup, sinigang, baked mussel and many more.

5.) Baker Hills, Sta. Monica Heights
Wonderland-like Baker's Hill sells specialized baked goodies. The place offers children's park and picnic areas in a cool and breezy environment.

Backpacking: Things you absolutely must try in Guimaras Island Philippines

Guimaras Island has 8,000 hectares of mango orchards where some 50,000 of these trees are planted. The island is famous for producing some of the sweetest mangoes in the world. The varieties of mangoes produced are also best for making dried mangoes, jam and other delicacies. The fastest route to the province is by means of a pump boat which is about 10-15 minutes ride from Iloilo City.

The province is composed of five municipalities, namely: Jordan, the provincial capital; Buenavista; Nueva Valencia; and the newly created Sibunag and San Lorenzo. Guimaras occupies about 3% of the region's total land area. The island is located in the Panay Gulf, between the islands of Panay and Negros. To the northwest is the province of Iloilo and to the southeast is Negros Occidental. Guimaras' largest event of the year is The Manggahan Festival (the Mango Festival).

I. Guimaras Tour

After you have enjoyed and visited the beautiful places of Bacolod City, its time also to pay a visit one of the very friendly and charming islands of Guimaras. Make sure to come in Guimaras during the mango season which starts in the month of April.

We left in our hotel around 5:00 AM from Bacolod and we headed to Bacolod Ocean Jet fast craftport leaving from Bacolod wharf at 06:15 AM, and arriving in Iloilo wharf at 07:30 AM. For Ocean Jet, the regular fare is 375.00 pesos/person one way. The pier is very accessible via public transportation and the main landmark is the Iloilo City Hall. It’s just a just 5 minute walk behind the back portion of the city hall. Then we immediately go to Ortiz wharf or Parola in Iloilo for the boat that will take us to Jordan Wharf (Guimaras). Guimaras Island can only be reached by a boat (14.00 pesos per person).


There are three companies operating from Bacolod to Iloilo and vice versa daily: Ocean Fast Ferries, Weesam Express and Aleson Shipping Lines, Inc. Almost the same set-up and rates for both Weesam and Aleson.

Upon arriving, we went straight ahead to the tourist information for registration located at the waiting shed outside the arrival area of the Jordan Wharf. They also provided options for your transportation and provide you with a map around the island. There’s a fixed rates for vehicle rentals regulated by the Guimaras Provincial Government.  For multicab its 1,800php for the whole day tour and while the tricycle its 1,200.00 pesos whole day tour. You just have to informed and discussed places to go to and resort to stay in with the tour guide/driver. You can also negotiate the price depending of your length of stay in the island.

1. The Smallest Plaza
The first tourist attraction you’ll see in Guimaras is the statue of Jose Rizal. This is popularly known as the smallest plaza in the Philippines. This is just a few minutes away from the Jordan wharf.

3. Trappist Monastery
The Our Lady of the Philippines Monastery is a Trappist monastery on Guimaras, the Philippines and is the only Trappist monastery in the Philippines. The monastery is also available for retreats and there are 35 monks living in the monastery. When we enter inside the monastery, a monk welcomed us; he asked us to write our prayer petitions in the paper and after that he blessed us and we gave our petitions. They produce a number of products, selling under the brand "Trappist Monastic Products", including pineapple and mango jams, which can be found at their shop and in local stores.

4. Museo de Guimaras
The Guimaras Provincial Monument and Museum was built in 2006. The structure serves as landmark for the people of the province. When we had tour around Guimaras the museum is under renovation and closed to public.

5. The Pitstop Restaurant

This restaurant is along the main road and everything in the menu has mangoes in it – mango pizza, mango adobo, mango shake, mango burger, mango carbonara, piaya (traditional flatbread), mango spaghetti, garden fresh pizza and mango catsup. The place is nice and quiet, very affordable price and friendly staff.

6. Island hopping

A. Raymen Beach Resort in Alubihod, Poblacion, Nueva Valencia. This is most accessible for it can be reached by boat and land transportation which makes it ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and kayaking and other water activities. If one travels by land, Raymen Beach Resort is 40 minutes from Jordan wharf by land. If one chooses to travel by boat, it will take an hour from Iloilo Wharf. The resort is also convenient because they offer island hopping packages even for walk-in guests.
B. The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) research facility and Aquaculture Department (AQD) was established in 1973 to conduct research, develop technologies, disseminate information, and train people in the farming of fishes, crustaceans, mollusks, and seaweeds for food, livelihood, equity, and sustainable development. There are breeds of milkfish and grouper the size of a small kid. The chief coordinator of SEAFDEC will give you a small tour of the floating facility in the middle of sea.
C. Turtle Island. The white sand island is named because the island looks like a sea turtle on one side.
D. Isla Naburot in Sinapsapan, Jordan. It is an eco-friendly family owned islet resort with an 11 room resort.
7. The Guisi Lighthouse
Guisi Lighthouse is a ruin of an 18th century Spanish parola located at the Guisi Point of Barangay Dolores in Nueva Valencia. The lighthouse, a 17.5 m (58 ft) octagonal cylindrical tower, was built by the Spanish government in 1894 -1896 that used to serve as a navigational aid to the fishermen and sailors cruising Panay Gulf. A "Welcome" sign written on a fish-shaped board at the entrance greeted us. Entrance fee is P10 per person only. You may also visit other beach resorts near Guisi Lighthouse.
